I designed all the necessary electromechanical and heating systems in a detached house which is not connected in the main energy network, using renewable energy systems in order to ensure full energy autonomy. My case study was Chania city of Crete.
Process
Calculation of the electrical needs of the house based on the architectural plan.
Calculation and design of the photovoltaic power generating system based on the region’s solar radiation.
15 Solar Panels LDK 190-200Wp (72Cells) Monocrystalline 200WATT / HOUR - Power 190-200Watt / p - Voltage Vmp 36.9 V - Current Imp 5,44A - Photovoltaic efficiency 17.94% - Dimensions 158.0 x 80.8 x 4.0 cm - Weight 15.6 KG - Price: 195 euro
Calculation and design of the wind power generation system to overcome the residual needs after designing the photovoltaic system.
Added batteries, inverter and load regulator for the system.
1 Greatwatt S1000 1200W / 48 V Wind Turbine Generator - 1000W / 48 V wind generator with external MPPT charging regulator. - Starting speed (wind): 2.5m / s - Output voltage: 48 V - Maximum Power: 1200W - Blade Diameter: 1.17m - Weight: 28 Kg - Price: 1711 euros
For the heating system I calculated and analyzed the cost of energy produced by oil, natural gas and biomass boilers. I chose the natural gas boiler since it was the most effective
Results
The renewable energy system I designed was cheaper than the cost of the conventional energy network, making it sustainable and viable as an alternative option.
